Climate Atlas

The Belgian Climate Atlas shows the geographical distribution of the Normals (long-term averages) of various meteorological parameters. As recommended by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and in order to be representative of the present climate, the Normals have been calculated for the reference period 1981-2010.

This atlas currently contains information on the following parameters:

air temperature
in French or Dutch

precipitation
in French or Dutch

sunshine
in French or Dutch

storms
in French or Dutch

The maps shown are the result of the geographical distribution of the Normals determined on the basis of measurements taken at the meteorological measuring points. The interpolation method was adjusted depending on the meteorological parameter analysed. These maps give an overall picture of the geographical distribution of the meteorological parameter in question. Certain local variations may also be influenced by the location and environmental variables of the measuring points. This atlas is part of an ongoing project and it will be gradually expanded to include new maps and information.

And for young people, our friends Meteoz and Nova will provide additional information about the climate Atlas in a series of teaching files (in French or Dutch).
